Another solid week…

This is the third week in a row that I’ve hit the 40 mile mark. That’s not particularly high mileage for me, but its been a while since I’ve hit consistent weekly miles and its feeling good to get into this routine. The long runs are feeling great and I’m able to handle the speedwork too. So this week, here’s what I managed:
Tuesday – Speed day – 10×400 / 1×800
Wednesday – Easy recovery day of 5.5 miles
Thursday – Hill workout – 10×200 hills in Prospect Park, 8 miles total
Friday – Off from running, but went to my first yoga class
Saturday – Long run – 15.7 miles total
So not just consistent miles but also some quality speed days and a cross training day!

Today’s run was a lot of fun. I met up with the group at GAP and we ran along Prospect Park West until we hit Green-wood Cemetery. From there we followed along the North side of the cemetery and took 5th Avenue out to 67th Street. We guessed at 67th St, but got lucky as it took us right to the entrance of Owl’s Head Park in Bay Ridge. We ran around there a bit an then found a path that took us to the bike/pedestrian path along the Harbor, heading towards the Verrazano Bridge. It dropped a good 10 degrees along the water, so after about a mile we cut in to the park along Shore Parkway and started heading back the way we came. We finished up at the Bagel Hole so I could get my weekly fix of the most delicious bagels ever, and then I headed home. It was a fun run, with some long gradual hills to keep it interesting. The weather couldn’t have been nicer – I’m really enjoying springtime this year, I feel like since I moved to NYC, its made spring that much better. Its just so ugly and cold here in the winter, with slushy roads and cold winds, but the spring is amazing, flowers everywhere and trees blooming, everyone getting out and enjoying the weather. And fun runs like these to get to take it all in!
